This document describes how to set up individual time and/or volume budgets for the users of the LANCOM Public Spot.
A time or volume budget causes a Public Spot user to be logged off from the Public Spot when they reach the time limit or the maximum permitted data volume. They then no longer have access to the Public Spot.
The configuration of a simple Public Spot scenario with the LANCOM Setup Wizard is described in the following Knowledge Base article .
1) Enable the accounting function on the RADIUS server
A basic prerequisite for using the time and/or volume budget is the operation of the accounting function in the RADIUS server on the LANCOM router or access point. To enable the accounting function, you proceed as follows:
1.1) Open the LANconfig configuration dialog and go to the menu RADIUS server -> General.
1.2) In the Accounting port field, enter the value 1.813.
1.3) Navigate to the menu Public Spot -> Users -> RADIUS server.
1.4) Open the configured entry and enter into the field Acc. server IP address the value 127.0.0.1. In the field Acc. server port, enter the value 1.813.
1.5) Close the configuration dialogs with OK and write the new configuration back to the LANCOM router or access point.
2) Creating a Public Spot account
2.1) Use WEBconfig to open the configuration of the LANCOM router or access point, go to the menu Setup Wizards and select the option Create Public Spot Account.
2.2) Use the field Time budget to enter the desired maximum access time in minutes.
2.3) Use the field Volume budget to enter the desired maximum data volume in MByte.
2.4) Click the button Create and print to complete the process.
2.5) A page containing the generated access credentials is displayed. It also shows the specified time and volume budgets. You can print out this page and hand it to the Public Spot user.
3) Configuring the time and volume budget with the Smart Ticket function:
The Smart Ticket function (sending user data via e-mail or SMS) allows you to globally specify the time and/or volume budgets which should apply to all Public Spot users.
Instructions on configuring the Smart Ticket function are available in the following Knowledge Base articles .
3.2) You can adjust the values by clicking on the options Volume budget or Time budget.
Please note that the values set here apply to every user account created with Smart Ticket. It is not possible to specify different settings for individual user accounts.
If you want to make these settings in LANconfig, you can do this in the Public Spot -> Wizard menu.
