Workaround for setting up a COM-port server using LCOS 7.70
Description:
A modification has been made to the handling in LCOS version 7.70 in order to operate in compliance with RFC 2217. This might mean that communication is not possible with every type of client software that provides emulation for a virtual COM port.
This document describes a workaround which enables an LCOS 7.70 device to read out equipment information.
The next version of LCOS is to include a mechanism that will allow communication with an activated RFC 2217 extension.
Important: Implementing this workaround prevents any negotiation in accordance with RFC 2217.
Requirements:
1. A LANCOM device with a serial interface
2. The LANCOM COM-port adapter (or an adapter with the specified pin assignment)
3. Eterlogic Virtual Serial Ports Emulator software to emulate the virtual serial COM port

You can find general instructions on how to set up the COM port server
here

Setup:
A device (such as a PLC or PBX system) is connected via a serial interface to a LANCOM router with an activated COM port server. Installing client software for creating virtual ports on a workstation allows this computer to connect to the serial device.
Procedure:
Configuring the LANCOM:
Step 1:
Create the COM port server under COM Ports -> Devices -> Device mode -> Device type: Outband / Device mode: COM port server.
Step 2:
Under COM Ports -> Server -> Device ports, create a new device type as follows:
Device type: Outband / Port: 0 / Operate: On
Step 3:
The settings for the serial connection are set up as follows under COM Ports -> Server -> Serial interface:
Device type: Outband / Port: 0 / Bit rate: 9600 / Data bits: 8 / Parity: No parity / Stop bits 1 / Handshake: RTS-CTS / Ready condition: DTR / Ready data timeout: 0 seconds
Important: The bit rate must be set to 9600 bps.
Step 4:
Under COM Ports -> Server -> Network interface, configure the following settings for the network interface:
Device type: Outband / Port: 0 / TCP mode: Server / Listen port: e.g. 8001 / Connect port: 0 /
Important: Do not activate the RFC 2217 extension.
Configuring the client software:
Under Device -> Create -> Pair, create two virtual serial ports.
Then set up a TCP client under Device-> Create -> TCP client.
Activate DTR/RTS and select "TcpClientExample" as the script.
Under "Settings" configure the following:
Configuring software for a PBX system (example):
Under Server settings / Interface, activate COM port 4 and set the maximum serial baud rate to 9600 bps.
